Samantha Banks, LSW
Sam (they/she) is a Licensed Social Worker and sex educator with an MSW and an M.Ed in Human Sexuality from Widener University. As a queer therapist, they know how vital it is to feel seen and understood as our most authentic selves. Sam values the strengths that you bring into the room, and supports you in identifying strengths you have yet to realize.
Sam takes a relational and humanistic approach, valuing the therapeutic relationship as the basis for a genuine and supportive therapeutic environment. Whether you’re overcoming trauma, navigating difficult relationships, struggling with hardship, or looking to find your place in the world, Sam offers a trauma-informed, collaborative, and eclectic approach that is unique to your needs.
Sam specializes in working with queer and trans folks through identity and sexuality, and has experience working with survivors of trauma, abuse, and cultural trauma, depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, body dysmorphia, anger issues, and grief and loss. They are experienced in psychodynamic and strengths-based therapies, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), prolonged exposure therapy (PE), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT). Sam’s education background opens the door to a unique approach, with a focus on andragogy, coaching, and if you’re open to it, homework to further explore yourself and your life outside of the therapy room.
With warmth, openness, and curiosity, Sam is here to offer an ear to listen, a perspective to consider, and most importantly a safe space to dig deeper into yourself and to reach your goals. She believes healing happens when we’re able to show up authentically, and she’ll always meet you where you’re at.
