Tori Mittelman, LMSW
Tori (she/her/hers) is a dedicated and passionate therapist with a Masters in Social Work from Widener University. Currently, she is licensed in Pennsylvania and is in the process of becoming licensed in Delaware. Her work as a psychiatric social worker at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia allows me to support individuals from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, offering a trauma-focused, empathetic, and ever-adapting approach to therapy.
Tori’s career journey has been anything but conventional. Before transitioning to therapy, she spent over a decade immersed in the world of theatre as a performer, teaching artist, and director. This rich experience in the arts, particularly in teaching for an autism drama program, profoundly influenced her decision to shift her career path toward social work. She discovered that her passion for helping others find their voice and express their stories was best channeled through therapy.
In addition to her extensive background in theatre, she also supported herself through graduate school by directing Philadelphia’s largest rock climbing gym. This experience honed her leadership skills and deepened her appreciation for the transformative power of physical and emotional resilience.
Tori’s therapeutic approach is grounded in a trauma-focused lens and incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, drama therapy, and narrative therapy. She is committed to creating a therapeutic space that is anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, feminist, and sex-positive. She believes in working collaboratively with clients, from children to adults, and couples, to challenge them when necessary while providing a supportive environment for personal discovery and growth.
As an avid outdoor enthusiast and pet therapy advocate, Tori brings a holistic perspective to her practice. Her goal is to be a steadfast lighthouse for her clients in their stormiest moments, offering them safety, understanding, and encouragement as they navigate their journeys toward lasting change. Tori firmly believes that internal motivation is the most powerful catalyst for growth and transformation, and she strives to empower her clients to search for their own answers and achieve their goals.
